The Libraries will have special hours next week for Thanksgiving Break. Dinand, Science, and Music will close early on Tuesday, November 26. All libraries will be closed Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. Regular hours for all libraries will resume on Monday, December 2nd. We currently have a trial to the “Data Planet” database. This database provides access to data from licensed and public domain datasets. It contains more than 52 billion data points sourced from more than 70 source organizations. It includes charts, maps, views, rankings, time series and tables. You can the contents of the collection, select subjects and variables of interest, and view data in customizable tables and charts.

On Monday, November 11th, Dinand Library will host a local event for Virginia Tech’s Veterans Day Transcribathon. The transcribathon is in support of the American Soldier in World War II project,
an endeavor to transcribe and make accessible thousands of surveys distributed by the US Army Research Branch during the Second World War, which record the candid thoughts and experiences of American soldiers in the war.
Our transcribathon will be held Monday, November 11, from 1:30-3:30pm in Dinand 205. All students, faculty, and staff are welcome to join for all or part of the event. Please bring your own laptop in order to participate. Due to course registration, Dinand Library will open at 6:45 AM, and the Science Library will open at 6:30 AM, on November 7, 11, 14, and 18th.

Social Explorer is an online data reference tool for the United States. It unlocks 220 years of U.S. Census data and makes them available in an easy to use fashion with data visualization, reporting and downloads.
Statista integrates thousands of diverse topics of data and facts from a wide range of sources. Sources of information include market research, trade publications, scientific journals, and government databases.
